54 – Placentia – Traditional Custom Design Build Kitchen Remodel with Honed Soapstone Countertop
This historic 1908 Placentia home had a cluttered kitchen that could barely provide enough room for comfortable cooking, let alone dining and family togetherness. The owners wished to expand the kitchen by adding on an extension to the house, meanwhile completely updating the look with something fresh and vibrant. APlus was recruited to execute the vision. We started the renovation by stripping the kitchen and knocking out the exterior wall, then building the extension. The exterior of the extension was styled to seamlessly match with the rest of the home, making it look as if it had been there all along.
In the new kitchen, golden wood floors were built upon with white traditional cabinets in a U-shaped layout, with simple moulding and blue glass hardware. This blue matches the cornflower hue of the freshly painted walls, and instantly gives the kitchen a brighter look. Some of the cabinets were inset with textured glass panels, and built in custom structures including an oversized hood with spice shelves, as well as a miniature wine bar and even a pull-out computer workstation. Built-in compartments were made for the stainless steel appliances, and even the pantry was outfitted with all new cabinetry. Black soapstone countertops with subtle white marbling make up the surfaces, while a gray tile backsplash appears on some sections of the walls. The back entrance was finished off with a Dutch split door, combining with all of the other elements to create a modern farmhouse feel in the updated country kitchen. This look is echoed in the powder room, which features a matching vanity and a classic vessel sink.
