52 – Mission Viejo – Kitchen Remodel with Entertainment Center & Custom Cabinets
In this Mission Viejo home, we found a rather depressing little kitchen tucked away in a corner. It was in sore need of renovation, so our team set to work immediately. We knocked out walls, expanding the space to create a large open kitchen with an L-shaped layout. The chosen palette for the new design consists of a warm chestnut brown tone for the hardwood flooring and other accents, and a milky white shade for the finish of the custom cabinets we built. They were constructed in a traditional style, with detailed crown moulding, corbels, and dark brass door knobs and drawer pulls. Part of the cabinet construction includes a custom hood housing a vent over the stove, as well as built in sections for the stainless steel appliances. The upper cabinets have track lighting mounted on their undersides, providing illumination for the sandy granite countertops. Between the upper and lower cabinetry, we installed full-height backsplashes of shiny white tiles to further reflect this additional lighting.
For the kitchen’s center island, we topped it with a butcher’s block slab of striped wood in a handsome tone complementary to that of the hardwood floors, and the seats of the chairs pulled up to its bar area on the other side. At the edge of the kitchen, we refaced the fireplace with beautifully striated beige stone, and framed it with an espresso brown mantle. On the corner that marks the transition from the kitchen to the living room, we built a wraparound china cabinet and entertainment center out of dark espresso brown wood as well, with the same moulding style as that of the kitchen cabinetry. On the living room side of the construction, we incorporated a recessed section that comfortably houses the flat-screen TV. Impressed with our work?
