50 – Mission Viejo – Complete Home Remodel with custom cabinets
Formerly, the kitchen in this Mission Viejo home was quite cramped. It had a small entryway, and much of it was blocked off from the rest of the home. Our primary task in this renovation was to free up the space and enhance it with a new transitional style that spoke of everyday sophistication. We started by knocking out the wall that separated it from the living room, and reconfiguring the layout. The result was an open U-shaped kitchen that could much better accommodate the owner’s cooking and dining needs. Light wood floors are contrasted by the dark espresso brown finish of the custom cabinets we built, with crown moulding, dark hardware, and built-in space for the premium stainless steel appliances. At the center of the kitchen, our team constructed a center island with ample storage space and room for casual seating. A white finish was chosen to maintain brightness in the new design. Finally, all of the surfaces were topped with pale gray granite countertops, which were extended up the walls as sleek backsplashes.
Many areas in the rest of the home also suffered from the problem of cramped space, so the rest of our renovation efforts were focused on opening things up. In the master bathroom, we widened the area and installed glass doors to let in more light. At the end of the bathroom, our team created a spacious walk-in closet. Other bathrooms in the home had their ceilings raised and all of their materials replaced with those of the new kitchen. The pantry/laundry area was sectioned off by an archway and door, which we promptly removed to form an airy workspace for doing the household chores. In the living room, we refaced the fireplace with earthy stone bricks and built a new dark wood mantle. Dark wood was also used in the construction of the workspace cabinetry in a room that doubles as an office and TV lounge.
