Demolition Work Before a Complete Home Kitchen Remodel – Lake Forest Mini Series 2 Episode
As we continue our Complete House Remodel in the City of Lake Forest Mini Series, Episode 2 takes you inside one of the most important stages of the renovation process — demolition and rough construction.
Before you install beautiful finishes, custom cabinets, or modern fixtures, you must complete serious preparation work. This stage builds a strong foundation for the entire transformation. At first glance, demolition may appear chaotic. However, skilled professionals plan every step with precision. They execute the process carefully and strategically. As a result, the new design can take shape safely and accurately. Also, proper preparation prevents structural issues and costly mistakes later in the project.
Kitchen Before Remodel – Stripped to the Framework
In this Lake Forest home, the kitchen was completely opened up. The old cabinetry, countertops, flooring, and appliances were removed to make way for a new layout. Sections of the ceiling were taken down to access outdated electrical wiring and plumbing lines.
The team carefully evaluated the load-bearing wall sections. They partially removed specific areas to create an open concept design. As a result, the kitchen now connects seamlessly with the living room. During this stage, the crew adjusted the framing to support the new layout. At the same time, they reinforced key structural elements. Therefore, the home maintains full structural integrity while embracing a more spacious design.
This rough construction phase also included:
Updating electrical systems to meet current code Preparing for recessed lighting installation Rerouting plumbing for new sink and appliance placement Reinforcing ceiling joists where needed While it may appear messy, every step during demolition is strategic and aligned with the final design plan.
Living Room Before Construction – Fireplace & Structural Changes
The living room area also underwent significant preparation. The existing fireplace structure was evaluated and partially demolished to accommodate a modern redesign. Walls were opened to inspect insulation and electrical components.
Removing outdated finishes revealed the home’s original framing, giving the remodeling team a clear understanding of structural elements. This stage allows the project manager to confirm measurements, adjust framing if needed, and ensure the new design integrates seamlessly with the existing structure.
Opening up the living room space creates better flow, improved natural light distribution, and sets the stage for a cohesive main floor transformation.
Upstairs – Master & Guest Bathrooms in Rough Construction
Upstairs, both the master bathroom and guest bathroom were fully gutted. Old vanities, tile, tubs, and fixtures were removed down to the studs.
During rough construction, the team focused on:
Reconfiguring plumbing lines for new fixture placement Installing updated ventilation systems Inspecting and replacing outdated wiring Reinforcing subfloors for future tile installation
Demolition in bathrooms is especially critical because moisture management, waterproofing, and structural support must be addressed before any finish materials are installed.
