In the luxe neighborhood of Coto de Caza, Coto de Caza Traditional kitchen home needed some improvements if it was going to match the elegance of its surroundings. That’s where APlus came in.

Before Coto de Caza Traditional kitchen remodel

Prior to our renovation, the kitchen was fairly humdrum. A muted color palette and non-distinctive layouts made for a dull visual impression. We worked with the homeowners to develop a completely unique look full of custom touches that was certain to give the kitchen a stately, traditional appearance.

Restructuring

The old kitchen was completely demolished. One of the first steps in the rebuilding process was the installation of California Classics hardwood floors in “Malibu”, a deep brown finish.

The team built the new maple cabinetry using Euro and face-frame construction with Tuscan-style doors. Inside, the cabinets feature durable domestic maple plywood interiors. In addition, the drawers include reinforced melamine bottoms for added strength. Finally, the craftsmen finished all cabinet exteriors in an off-white base and enhanced them with a custom glaze for a refined look. The result is a posh ivory finish that enhances the refinement of the custom carving work on the posts and above the fridge. There is also an ornate wood hood over the stove top. Some cabinet doors feature inset seeded glass panels, which add depth and visual interest. Additionally, custom-designed crown moulding lines the tops of all cabinets and walls, creating a cohesive and finished appearance.

A large center island was built in a contrasting dark brown finish, achieved with a custom stain. The island also features floral carvings at its corners. Dal Tile’s Colonial Gold granite countertops span the entire kitchen and feature a 1½-inch profile. On the island, the craftsmen created a unique slab cut for added character. As a result, the corners extend outward, while the outside edge curves smoothly for a softer, custom finish.

The design includes a full-height backsplash across the kitchen walls, created with cream-toned tiles. As a result, the surface adds subtle texture while also complementing the soft hues of the countertops and cabinetry.

Appliances

When the time came to select appliances, the homeowners decided to select all of their pieces from Thermador, one of our top suppliers. The design team created the 54-inch refrigerator by combining a 30-inch refrigerator column with a 24-inch freezer column. Meanwhile, on the opposite side of the kitchen, a 54-inch hood insert sits above a large six-burner range, balancing both function and visual impact. There’s a 24” Emerald Dishwasher faced to match the rest of the cabinets, and a 24” Drawer Microwave built into the center island. The island also features a stone farmhouse-style sink with artful carvings.

Dining Room

The formal dining room also needed some sprucing up, so we built custom cabinets in the same dark brown finish as that of the kitchen’s island. The design includes a display cabinet that showcases the owner’s fine china and collectibles. In addition, a wine rack with a dedicated uncorking area fits seamlessly into the wall. Overlooking the dining table, a large recessed cabinet structure creates a strong focal point. Moreover, custom crown moulding frames the cabinet, while a Dal Tile backsplash featuring Torreon tiles from the Travertine collection adds warmth and texture.
