In this Irvine home remodel, we transformed a ho-hum kitchen into one of functional luxury. Our general contracting experts used their skills in both construction and interior design to create a  space with maximum storage and style. Read on to discover how we made it possible.

Before our team was called in, this kitchen was dated and bland. Ancient patterned wallpaper clashed with the sterile white tile countertops, and there simply wasn’t enough room for storing all of the client’s dishes and ingredients. This led to cluttered countertops and messy cabinets that were tedious to go through. Furthermore, the space was tightly walled-in, and was un-hospitably separated from the dining room. Our main goal was to use this renovation to make the kitchen a much more pleasant place for the homeowner to spend time in, and functional enough to make cooking and entertaining a breeze.

Restructuring

Our first task in revamping this kitchen was to take down the oppressive wall that separated it from the dining room. To create an open feel without losing cabinet or counter space, we opted for a bar-style cutout that provided a clear view into the dining area. The design introduces custom Montebello-style cabinets crafted from African Mahogany. As a result, the kitchen gains an immediate boost in sophistication and visual richness. Dark knobs and handles by Rhodes keep the look sleek and sumptuous.

These handsome cabinets wrap all the way around the kitchen, and even form the base of the new large island in the center. To solve the client’s storage problem, we got creative. The design integrates cleverly placed drawers and shelves within the cabinets. As a result, every nook and cranny serves a practical purpose and maximizes storage efficiency.

The design features countertops crafted from rustic Cambria Lincolnshire material. In addition, double-layered round beveled edges add a refined and finished look. Behind the sink and stovetop areas, an understated backsplash of earth-toned Durango Travertine tiles adds an unexpected level of detail to the kitchen’s new look.

Appliances

The appliances were chosen to blend in well, rather than take center stage. This allows for the gorgeous texture of the dark wooden cabinets to be the primary focus. In fact, the new GE Profile Counter-Depth 23.3 cu. ft. The design team clad the refrigerator with matching wood paneling to maintain a seamless aesthetic flow. As a result, the appliance blends naturally into the overall kitchen design. Near the kitchen entryway, a stainless steel Masterpiece Series double combination oven sits beside an open stretch of countertop. In addition, this placement improves accessibility and workflow. Another piece from the Masterpiece Series, a Deluxe Glass Cooktop, overlooks the dining room to allow for friendly conversation with guests while cooking.  The design places a Blanco Diamond double-bowl sink directly in front of the window. To its left, a Thermador dishwasher features matching cabinet paneling, which helps it blend seamlessly with the surrounding cabinetry.
