66 – Dove Canyon – Complete Kitchen Remodel with brand new custom cabinets

A Dove Canyon residence had an aging kitchen that just didn’t meet the expectations of its owners, stylistically nor practically. The original kitchen had its own set of basic custom cabinets, but the placement of the appliances didn’t help the room meet its aesthetic potential, and the plain white style made the whole space feel underwhelming. Additionally, the wraparound G-shaped layout only served to box the room in and make it seem smaller. We remedied all of this by tearing out the old kitchen and starting from scratch. We put in large sand-colored tiles in a diamond pattern on the floor, and then moved on to building the new custom cabinets according to an open U-shaped layout. They were built in a traditional style, with a rich chestnut brown finish and dignified crown moulding. We incorporated many custom touches, such as spice-pulls, spice shelves, lazy suzans, pull-out tray shelving, and vertical tray shelving. To give the kitchen drama and refinement, we constructed an industrial-sized custom hood above the stove, with its own moulding and corbels.
Upon the exposed walls was installed a neutral tile backsplash, with a rectangular mosaic focal point between the stove and the hood above. The plumbing was pulled over so that most of the major appliances could now be housed on the right side, better balancing the composition of the kitchen. At the center, we built a large island in a contrasting finish of creamy white, with the same warm marble countertops as the rest of the room. It has its own storage, as well as room for seating. Just around the corner from the kitchen, we built an elegant wine bar out of the same materials as the kitchen cabinetry. But before its placement could be made ideal, we had to slightly recess the wall behind it. The bar holds a wine refrigerator, as well as its own pull-out tray shelving.
